The Iraq Media Action Project (IMAP) promotes the use of high quality documentary film to incite discourse and action related to the war in Iraq.

In addition to offering a library of powerful, independent documentaries, IMAP provides you with a streamlined process for hosting a film screening to catalyze action in your community. Whether you are a seasoned organizer or an individual who feels compelled to act, you can easily host a screening that will make a difference in the lives of soldiers and veterans and Iraqi civilians, will help influence young people not to join the military, or will convince lawmakers to make changes in Iraq policy.

CHOOSE A FILM
Often the only images of Iraq that many of us encounter are the ten second clips of conflict shown on the nightly news. Certainly there are more images to be seen and more voices to be heard. IMAP films provide intimate looks into the effects of the war on American soldiers and Iraqi citizens. On IMAP you can browse the library of films, which are organized by their relevance to four action areas, and find one that you would like to use for an intentional screening in your community.

LINK TO ACTION
With IMAP, you may choose a film, learn about the issues, and host a screening that is tied to action. You can easily link your screening to featured actions, or incorporate it into your existing efforts. IMAP films cover a variety of issues such as soldiers & veterans, civilians, counter recruitment, and peace & justice. On our action page you will find feature actions for each of these areas as well as information on various organizations that work on related issues.

HOST A SCREENING
Organizing an effective screening of an IMAP film is simple, especially when you are guided step by step with our IMAP community screening guide. This downloadable guide makes organizing screening logistics easy and minimizes your workload while increasing the impact of your screening.

REPORT BACK
IMAP wants to encourage participation and therefore encourages you to report back to other users about your screening and the resulting actions, thereby helping to multiply the site's impact. Interactive tools will give you a say in shaping IMAP actions and issues.

There are three criteria that guide our decision to include films in IMAP:

CONTENT - The film must be of high quality. Each film must have an excellent narrative, be well crafted and beautifully told, with each element working together.

INTENT - The film must clearly frame the issue. even if the film only presents one story, it must resonate beyond itself and speak to the larger issue.

CHANGE - The film must hold high potential to be embedded in on-the-ground activism and organizing efforts. The film must be moving and powerful enough to shift public opinion and policy.

If you know of a film not included in the IMAP collection that meets these criteria, please submit the title and any additional information to Anna Lee at alee@workingfilms.org
